go west

August 18, 2007

Katie and I will be moving to Sacramento beginning tomorrow morning and won’t be getting there until Wednesday. I won’t have a computer during the trip and who knows when I’ll get my laptop back from HP. So don’t expect much from me over the next week, not that you would have anyways.
Out.

For you organic food lovers, Whole Foods is planning to purchase Wild Oats. As the Associated Press reports via the Houston Chronicle, after the FTC lost its initial battle to stop the purchase on antitrust grounds, Whole Foods indicated that the transaction will not be completed before August 20. soccer in America: it’s not gonna happen

August 18, 2007

Lately ESPN has become significantly involved in promoting the sport of soccer here in the US. This promotion revolves heavily around international superstar David Beckham coming to America attracting all sorts of fans who otherwise wouldn’t care. the dismal NL Central

August 18, 2007

Entering today’s play, the Chicago Cubs lead the NL Central with a record only 3 games above .500. This was expected to be the weakest division in baseball and the predictions have held true. There’s no shortage of critiques of the NL Central: Sports Frog, the Happy Fongo, and the Nasty Boys’ Sports [...]

technological blues

August 8, 2007

When it rains, it pours.  The plan was to use my 10 day or so break in Cincinnati before moving west as a way to relax and also to catch up and communicate with the outside world that I had neglected while studying for the bar.  My primary means of communicating are my cell phone, [...]

internet censorship

August 5, 2007

Over at Wired Blogs, Ryan Singel reports that Arkansas Senator Mark Pryor (D) has introduced legislation that would give the Federal Communications Commission power to develop and acquire filtering technology that would apply to the entire internet.  The goal is “to find cutting edge technologies that can censor audio and video that flows over the [...]

Republican debate poll

August 5, 2007

The Drudge Report ran a poll today asking who was the winner of this morning’s Republican debate.  That Ron Paul was the leader at the polls should not be all that surprising — he has good ideas and a huge following on the internet.  It will be interesting to see how Paul’s policies and online [...]

tax breaks

August 4, 2007

I had some time before going out this evening so I decided to look into news on state tax breaks and incentives, the main focus of my prior blog.
In Kansas City, the mayor said that “the city needs to be far more focused and disciplined in the way it hands out developer tax breaks.”  It [...]

An associate professor of literature at Duke laments the fact that he once heaped praise upon ESPN.
