regrets, I have a few
My fourth biggest lifetime regret is not attending a St. Louis Rush concert in 2004. An incredible band and apparently an even more incredible live performer, I had every opportunity to attend what surely was a great concert that summer.
My reasons for not going were simple, but not strong. I couldn’t afford it, didn’t want to piss the people off at work by asking off, and was afraid my more musically inclined friends would question my tastes.
Three years later, I want to shake the Brandon of 2004 and ask him what the hell he was thinking. Would an extra $40-50 matter on top of thousands of dollars of education debt? Should you have really cared what the people at Enterprise Rent-a-Car customer service office (1-800-Rent-a-Car, still a good deal for those interested) thought of your missing one night of work? And why couldn’t you realize that your friends were jealous of your genuine appreciation for a classic rock-and-roll band, and why should you care anyways?
There are few concerts that I desire to go to now, and Rush is one of them. They are actually touring this summer, but like so many other recent fun and exciting events (weddings, bachelor parties, golf outings, baseball games), my pursuit of admission to the California bar gets in the way.
Check this out . . . Rush will be playing in Cincinnati and Columbus this upcoming September, but I will already be in Sacramento. They will be in Sacramento on August 4, but my two week stay there for the bar exam will have ended days earlier and I won’t return until later in the month. I’m in Chicago and the Midwest for most of the summer, but the Chicago concert is also in September (again, I’ll be in freaking Sacramento).
As a friend of mine used to say: stress. I can only hope this is not Rush’s last tour.
